EDP, EDT & Parfum: What's the Real Difference?

Infinite Ora — Not Just a Scent, It's Your Lifestyle

Walk into any fragrance store and you'll see the same three letters everywhere: EDP, EDT, and sometimes just "Parfum." Most people assume they're just marketing labels, but the truth is these terms tell you exactly how strong, how long-lasting, and how expensive a fragrance really is. Understanding the difference helps you buy smarter and get the experience you're actually paying for.

It All Comes Down to Concentration

Every perfume is a mixture of aromatic oils and alcohol (or water). The percentage of pure fragrance oil in that mixture is what separates a Parfum from an EDT. The higher the oil concentration, the richer, deeper, and longer-lasting the scent — and usually, the higher the price.

Parfum (Extrait de Parfum) - 20–30% fragrance oil

This is the most concentrated, most luxurious form of fragrance. Parfum sits closest to the skin, doesn't project loudly, but lasts the longest — often 8 hours or more. A little goes a long way, which is why Parfum bottles are usually smaller and pricier per ml. It's the choice for people who want depth and intimacy over a big, loud sillage.

Eau de Parfum (EDP) - 15–20% fragrance oil

EDP is the most popular category today, and for good reason — it strikes the perfect balance between longevity and projection. It lasts 6–8 hours, has noticeable sillage without being overwhelming, and works for both day and evening wear. If you want one fragrance that does it all, EDP is usually the safest and smartest pick.

Eau de Toilette (EDT) - 5–15% fragrance oil

EDT is lighter, fresher, and more casual. It typically lasts 3–5 hours and is perfect for daytime, office wear, or hot weather since it feels less heavy on the skin. EDTs are also generally more affordable, making them a great entry point if you're new to a particular scent family.

Which One Should You Choose?

There's no universal "best" — it depends on your lifestyle. If you want something that lasts all day with minimal reapplication, go for Parfum or EDP. If you prefer something light, fresh, and easy to layer, EDT is your friend. Climate matters too - in hot, humid weather, an EDT can feel more comfortable, while cooler weather lets EDP and Parfum truly bloom.

At Infinite Ora, every fragrance is handcrafted with intention — so whichever concentration you choose, you're getting a scent built to be worn, not just applied.
